Hi all,
I am starting to build a light ring for Macro Photography and plan to share the details and progress as I go. Feel free to send comments at any time.
I plan to build four light stacks, each with three LEDs. The LEDs in each stack will start one inch from the bottom and go up at one inch increments. This should give me lighting below, at and above the subject.
I want a switch for each light level and a variable intensity control for each LED in each stack.
I will try to post pictures as I get the equipment together and start the build.
Update 14 February 2012:
Just when I was ready to get back to this project I managed to get "tennis" elbow from working on my CNC mill. I have never played tennis, so the doctor had to explain how twisting arm movements pinch the nerves. So while I wait to get some physical therapy, I thought I would update the post and try to upload an image.
It worked! Now I can insert more pictures.
Update 14 September 2011:
Sorry about the delay, but I had knee surgery and am now doing physical therapy to get my full movement back. The light ring project is currently on hold pending my completion of a couple of road tests. The parts are in and I have a case ready to drill and the LED canisters drilled and wired except for installing the LED's themselves. Bare with me, I only have a couple of hours each day to do stuff and my workshop is in the basement. It will be a while before I can handle the stairs again.
Update 19 April:
After doing some testing, I have decided to build the first stack using low technology. That means I will use a switch for the light levels, poteniometers to adjust brightness, LED's and wires. Once I see how that works, I will reevaluate my approach, hopefully after getting some pictures done.
Thanks,
DAB
