Merry Christmas element14 community!

25 Dec 2018

The Sleigh is packed and the weather (at least here) is clear enough for a flight tonight.

The flamingos and ducks have been providing my family holiday grins for about 15 years now.  My wife and I blended our two families (we each had a child from our previous marriage) about 15 years ago.  Since then I have always tried to put a smile on a step-daughters face.  Since she was a big flamingo fan, I decided to work them into a holiday display (the ducks showed up later).  This year when setting up the holiday decorations, one of the flamingos failed to light up.  So a couple of days ago I sat down to find the bad bulb and get the string running.  After several hours and finding not one but several bad bulbs, I threw in the towel and declared the string dead.  I was unable to find a suitable incandescent string so I thought, let's upgrade to LED.  Well, with the late start on the replacement project I could not find a simple LED string, so I decided to try some of those 'icicle' strings.  It took another couple of hours to 'destring' the flamingos and 'restring' them with the new lights.

Today I got the thumbs up from our daughter (who flew in last night) and the two Grandchildren (who stopped by tonight for an early Christmas eve meal - repeating our long running traditions of an Indian Curry meal).

So, to all my friends and fellow members of the element14 community.....

Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Years!

Gene

    John,

Thank you my friend and try and stay warm and toasty up there.  It looks like there is some snow coming, hopefully not too much (or it misses you for a while).

    Take care,

    Gene

    Dixon,

    Thank you for the wow.

We started our tradition about 15 years ago when we lived in California.  My son and his then girlfriend (now wife and mother to my darling grandchildren) lived about 2 hours away.  They came into town a little late that night (Christmas Eve) and then only restaurant that we could find open was a nice Indian place.  We so enjoyed the dinner that night that we started doing each year (even if they arrived earlier).  Now we all live in Texas (expect out daughter who lives in Boston), but with the young kids we don't eat out that much. So after the kids were born we started learning to cook some of the dishes that we enjoyed.  This year we made a chicken curry (not really authentic, sort of a Thia curry base).  We did pick up some assorted naan breads (a real favorite) and a selection of spicy chutneys.  Not as good as our favorite restaurants, but very enjoyable.

That's some nice decoration that can easily make one say, "Wow!" Glad your daughter and grandchildren liked it.

Merry Christmas to you and your family!

By the way, what is the Indian curry meal that you make? any photos?
