I wanted to give an update to this.
I am using the Motion Daemon and a normal webcam. This is all running on a Raspberry Pi B+.
I have a script set up to email me the vids as they are captured. I also have a script to email me all the space it is using for videos.
The only thing to note is that when viewing the live feed, when the cam tries to record a vid due to detecting motion, it may skip frames or put them out of order. The B+ may be a bit weak for this application, the live feed is only 4 frames per sec and the recorded vids are 2 fps. Not sure if it is the SDcard, I am using a class 10. But given the Pi 2 and 3 are so much faster there is not a need for a B+ other than I just have one already.
