Colossus @ Bletchley Park

This is the tour around Bletchley Park and took in all the old school Crypto stuff including a trip around  The National Meuseum of Computing.

There are 100's of small exhibits there but one ofo the best is the  Colossus the worlds first electronic computer image

Glowing valves, the hum of the paper tape feed all add to the excitement as well as a talk delivered by a staff member

    Great Video.

I am amazed that they can get the device to work at all after all of these years.

It was a tremendous accomplishment for its day.

Though I have to point out, it was the Polish Intelligence people who first cracked the Enigma codes.  They gave the British a tremendous head start in 1939.

    Just a thought,

    DAB

PS, I used to load paper tape into computers in my early years.  I can still hear the chatter of the ASR 33 paper tape reader.  The sound will haunt me for ever.  Chunka chunka chunka chunka.
