Odroid U3 power measurements

Problemchild

6 Apr 2014

I have a good few Odroid U3  SBCs I'm currently evaluating.

During this process I have been taking current measurements from

my bench supply whilst getting the U3 to perform various painful tasks such as 1080p

video playback and CPUBURN on 1,2,3 & all for all  4x 1.7GHZ cores.

Less demanding but more realistic I went through some web browsing, word processing

and Graphics "editing" with GIMP

Approximate results.

Idle 0.2-0.3A

Booting 0.3-0.9peak

Normal tasks 0.4-0.5A

CPU BURN 4cores 1.4A

1080p Movie playback 0.8-1.0A

I'm impressed by the current figures, so my questions are :-

    Where from the UK.?

    What distro did you choose.?

I'll be selling them through by website when I get to doing it. Sales so far are word o mouth!

I used the latest Xbuntu release in their downloads section the video is much faster etc.

If you can't find it I'll arrange for you to download it off my server.

You could have told me you had them ...

I included a case and fan since they were only a few dollar more.

Their postage is a bit steep at $25 Fedex which means an extra 4 days as they don't deliver here, and it goes through 2 other couriers to end up being delivered by the postie.

I did see their releases, and it included Android which is nice.

    Cheers

Sorry should have said that it's USD$25.

Our duty arrangement is that if the GST (15%) and Duty/Tax is less than $50, they just let it through.

That means if the item is about NZ$333 with no tax, then you're fine.

Unfortunately as I found out with the Wireless Challenge, when it goes over the threshold, then Customs decide to add a $46 fee, plus then UPS (the people paid by element14 to deliver it) add another $21.50.

hence $142.50 later I received my free gift.

I don't mind the GST bit, (if you are a company) but otherwise it's a rort that everyone seems to get involved with.

All rather similar ..ish in the UK

Just wondering .....since these items are merely to test and tinker with would they better sent as "commercial samples" and thus would be free of duty in most places.....??!?!?!?!

    Good point.

There is no duty/tax, but there is GST, and despite the lower value put on by Newark, that's the charge.

I did provide evidence to UPS that they were a gift (as part of the road test) but whether they bothered to try or not is anyone's guess.

So how much are you selling the Odroid for?
