Technology to grow Vegetables!... or is that Apples??

More quickies a friend of mine had started blogging about his Hydroponic Garden.

The hydroponics in them selves are very interesting but at the moment largely electronics free.

We are hoping to sort out automated dosing of nutrients as well as reporting all the metrics in

typical IOT style but in the mean time here are the the Hydro vids for your enjoyment image.

Well now you know the project will not be bug free. I have considered going hydroponic, but I am not sure of the care and maintenance needed. DAB

Its used commercially to grow lettuces in NZ on a very large scale. The Shed magazine publisher is very keen on a home based article using electronic monitoring and control. Had everything almost ready…

The book Mark mentions is a very well known text and here Hydroponics is a very popular hobby.

Production is much higher than say in soil ... more initial fiddling but I think it's more fun and maybe more accessible for folk say if they can't bend or getting on in life as you can build the infrastructure to your own comfortable height!

Yeah the scale of Lettuce production using this system is vast they use a system of continously adding new trays at one end and getting mature lettuce at the other. The toughs are like the size of a football field!!

Had everything almost ready and the large Hydroponics supply chain got busted because it was supplying for the wrong crop ..image

There is a very good book, which you might need to search for.

         HYDROPONIC GARDENING

A practical guide to growing plants without soil

         Lon Dalton/Rob Smith

First published 1984 and reprinted 1985

         COBB/HORWOOD PUBLICATIONS

It seems there is a revision 6 around from here.

    http://touchwoodbooks.co.nz/product/415788-APracticalguidetogrowingplantswithoutSoil-9780473092771

I did manage to find an affordable pH probe ... but I'd need to dig out where.

    Mark

I love watching this kind of stuff. Your man is really good at explaining it all. I had not considered it before, but since watching these videos I too am highly interested to know more!
