It's a Tree, It's an Antenna?

I have no doubt that I am a little out of it. New things and ideas seem to come faster than I can assimilate them sometimes. This may be more common that I think but it is the first time I have seen one.

At first glance I was impressed by how nice this tree looked. Then the camouflaged antennas at the top caught my eye but I still thought it was a tree that had been repurposed as a pole for a cell phone array. It wasn't until I saw the access panel on the trunk that I finally realized that the entire tree was artificial and just a way of disguising a cell phone tower.

We have a few of these trees in the UK, for me they stand out more because they are TOO perfect for nature. Others I have seen in the UK, (which I don't have a photo for) are Cell Towers on the top of…

John, These seemed to be popular in California (not sure if you are there yet). Communities would complain/object to ugly cell towers, so they tried to make them less ugly. I could never decide if they…

That's very creative thinking by the phone companies : )

I wonder when people first started fitting Yagi's on their homes, if they could imagine a time when they actually looked fairly invisible, in comparison to satellite dishes attached to so many homes in the UK : (

Those Cacti look awesome! We should have some over here...

(Though I doubt local environmentalists would approve)

Others I have seen in the UK, (which I don't have a photo for) are Cell Towers on the top of buildings and they put a canvas (I guess) frame around them painted the same colour and design as the brickwork below so that you just see another room instead of lots of radiation distributors.

    as for the US etc:
