Being to damn cold here in Wisconsin lately and not being able to go outside I was looking for something to do with our oldest son. He has one of my old Prusa Mendel's in his room that he plays with so I thought why not do some upgrades to it. We started yesterday with marking all the parts that we have and started a list of parts we will need to print. We even named the printer "Buzz Lightyear".
Here is a list of what we are going to upgrade/add:
-GT2 belts and pulleys
-Pillow block bushings along with the ACME pillow block x-end set and AO Pillow Block X Carriage
-40mm fans for electronics and printed part (around the hotend to cool the object being printed)
-swap out hotend nozzle from .5mm to .4mm
-add a polycarbonate kit to hotend
-aluminum z axis couplings instead of printed couplings
-hall end stops instead of mechanical
-filament cleaner
All of the printed parts I will be getting off Thingiverse - Digital Designs for Physical Objects. So yesterday we printed off the electronics fan mount and got it up and running. Let me tell you something about working with a 3 year old, something that should of took 15 min to do will take you 10x as long but in the end its well worth it. Would anybody find value in me documenting and explaining the connections and firmware along the way? I would be more than willing to do this as I like to see people getting involved in 3D printing.
I will end with a few pictures.
Hope you all enjoyed and look forward to hearing from you guys.
Nate
