NexGen: Getting the Lab Working: LAMBDA LP 411 FM - Panel Repair

imageIt took a while, on Dec 25, 2014, I showed you a picture of my bashed Lambda power supply. This must of happened in moving. So with the advent of a few "Maker Spaces" and a brand new large lab at UTA (Univesity of Texas at Arlington) and a nice hydraulic press, I should be  able to effect repairs to the front panel and make it well almost new but I will still have problems with the meter lens as I have not found a donner. This supply has been my go-to supply for a lot of years and would like to see it continue.

THE PLAN.

Well, this is easy just remove everything and label it all. Put it between a few chunks of wood and press the crap out of it. And as we say: Rinse and Repeat, until straight. Then re-assemble, with a new binding post, knobs etc. I don't work as fast as I used to, so this blog will be posted now and as the work is done I will add photos of the gore, as I go along.

BTW: When this is finished you should not be able to tell it apart from a nice new (LOL) one. (July 11, 2018)

Thanks, Again

UPDATES:

  • July 7, 2018 - Finished Removing Front Panels. Really torqued, Gravity is a ***!
  • July 9, 2018 - Front Panel is barely torqued as well, but cleaned up nicely. Needs the press, and some gray touch-up paint.

I found this collection of HPRegistered cartoons when HP used to sell great test gear, then as Stupid Goes.

  • HP announces strategic realignment to create an independent measurement company composed of test and measurement components, chemical analysis and medical businesses, and a computing and imaging company that includes all of HP's computing, printing and imaging businesses.
  • Agilent Technologies, the name of the new measurement company, is announced at a historic brand-identity launch event in San Jose, Calif., announced by Agilent President and Chief Executive Officer Ned Barnholt.
  • Carly Fiorina the next CEO fires most of the engineering staff to make a quick profit,  and "Sees the Oval Office", LOL

Love the cartoons. I agree with you on Carly. Since her tenure, HP has had to do a lot of hard changes to try to rebuild the company. Sadly, I do not think it has regained much of its reputation. I hear…

I was at the additive manufacturing show this spring here in FW. HPs *** is just soooo good. they built their big printer just like a big printJet. or about 36 cube print area they shoot ink then fine play sand filler. lots of small layers. bake it. then cool it. then play in the sand and knock it off your parts.  I have a ball within a ball within a ball within a ball within an outer ball. the balls are all wireframes and none are attached to each other. the outside ball is maybe 1.5' dia. and they are not attached to each other! .

Sadly, I do not think it has regained much of its reputation.

I hear the 3D printer business is good, but their equipment is way beyond my budget, though if I were in a business doing quality prints, I would definitely look at their latest gear.
