NexGen: Tech Tip V. Remove Labels and Adhesives

Ever try and remove a label from plastic? Yep, WD-40, Goo Gone, and others including yep peanut butter well just don't really work, or damage the plastic that the label is attached to. Most of you have used the old stand by a hair drier as well. But that tends to leave a residue, and you cant use it on PCB boards as its way too hot.image

Well, you got to check this stuff out. Motsenbocker's LIFT OFF Tape, Label, and Adhesive Remover. I have this old Milwaukee too case that had some fool put masking Duck tape on. And I could never get it cleaned up. Squirted a little on the mess and bingo it came off with a scratcher sponge. A little soap and warm water and it looked factory fresh.image

On-line it is about $10, but at Walmart, it is about $6.

What helps with older labels that have been there for a long time, in particular paper ones: Heat them with a hair drier on a temperature that you normally use to dry your hair. This often makes the glue…

As I have gotten older or as my patience has gotten shorter, I'm skeptical when I hear the expressions, it's easy or it works. I discover it is easy, if you have a Phd in the subject and it works, provided…

Awesome find. I just hate glue residue and labels that won't come off cleanly. I will definitely look for this stuff.

One technique I use similar to koudelad is to use tape, even Scotch tape, on residue. Stick the tape to the residue in the middle of a piece of tape and stretch the tape as you lift it off. I don't know why it works better than simply peeling the tape off, but it does.
