imageAs much as l like Debian 9.x, I hate this jury-rigged Cloud 9 Interface. Just getting the BB AI on my network (static IP address) was a chore and way too many steps!

This took many hours of trial, blind alleys, and miss-steps, As there is NO network icon on the desktop or trays. So for those of you that want to follow in my footsteps, here we go:

    1. Click on the Red Menu button in the lower-left
    2. Click on Preferences
    3. Click on Connman UI
    4. Click on Config  button at the bottom right (you might miss it)
    5. Click on Nameserver (I use Google's 8.8.8.8)
    6. Click on Methode and choose MANUAL
    7. Click on Address, mine is 192.168.1.100
    8. Click on Gateway, mine is 192.168.1.1
    9. Click on Netmask, mine is 255.255.255.0
    10. Click on OK your done!

This took 10 steps as in a normal desktop its

    1. Left Click on Network icon
    2. Click Network Settings
    3. Click on the wrench icon
    4. Click on IPv4
    5. EDIT!!

Next time I will install the Xfce window manager and do some real work

Jan Cumps Jan, there should be a network icon in the dam system tray. instead of taking a DAY to find it!! I'm downloading Xfce, as we speak.

You can get the OS loaded in the eMMC. The SD card can serve as additional space.

Jan Cumps jan I do agree with you. but still, It shouldn't be that slow, I think that most of the problem is the speed of the SD card (where the OS lives) and the memory, my old laptop with 3gb is still faster. I know it is running a web server, as I can go to my PC and type in 192.168.1.100 and I get to cloud 9. a frigging USB 2.0 attached HDA would solve some issues.

Yeah. Although they can do it, I'm a sceptic for using current day SBCs as graphical linux desktop PCs.

If we look at the requirements of running the graphical linux shells comfortably, then look at the specs of any sub-$100 SBC out there, we should not be surprised.

I think we should wait with declaring one of those boards the next true desktop PC replacement until they meet the required specs.

They are all capable of running server applications (database, mqaa serv, node-RED serv, local web or application server). Still different than giving a user the desktop experience that's  any better than X11 over remote in 2003.

have the fan on it and the board is only slightly warm to the touch.

I just found out that 10Gb won't do. I'm going to buy a 256Gb card.. LOL

to do the apt-get update took a while like 1hr.

when I tried apt-get install task-Xfce-desktop I filled up the SD card so I have to go to Dallas to pick up a 256Gb one. LOL

Is it running too warm? It's known to slow itself down when the operating temperature nears the limits.

In general BBs are fast for SBCs and the AI is the fastest of the family.
