I did a bit of soldering tonight to add headers to the XL_Star board, as well as to a couple of display options.
This will allow me to hook the board up to the displays so I can then start programming them... and I'm hoping I can make them do some fun stuff !
At this point I'm worried about my original goal of making a charge controller. With two weeks left until September 1st (the deadline), and several design points that are completely new to me, I might not get there. On the bright side, I should have more time in the next few weeks to actually work on this a bit more.
But even if I don't complete it, the sub-projects should be a lot of fun... first one will be to control a display.
Attached is a picture of my XL_Star board with the headers connected and running the demo (which means I didn't kill it with my soldering - score!).
The other picture is of a display I purchased as part of a "grab bag" a while back - it has a parallel interface to send commands and data to it. I still need to figure out what commands I need to send to it to make it work.
Cheers,
-Nico
