The good folks at element14 sent me this super awesome runner-up prize for the Experimenting With Thermistors Challenge: a DeLonghi coffee and espresso maker, and it arrived today!

Here is my "before" picture:

Nico's Previous Coffee Setup

As I'm the only coffee drinker in the house, I just had the 1-cup drip coffee maker for an easy start to the mornings, with a simple pour-over in the afternoon for a slightly better brew.
Fun fact is that the little coffee maker is Disney-Frozen themed! I picked it up several years ago because it was the only single-cup drip brewer I've ever found to handle my preferred larger mug size, and it actually does a pretty good job. And it was on sale Smile
My wife never liked it that much Laughing I think she's jealous of my relationship with Anna and Elsa Wink

So much nicer! And so much more grown-up, says my wife. As if my Disney coffee maker wasn't grown-up enough Shrug pffft.

I found a mug that fits perfectly too...

I honestly thought I'd get more of an eye-roll when I showed her Laughing, but all she said is that this mug is not dishwasher safe Shrug

So I found a "more grown-up" mug that fits.

And I have to say, that first cup of coffee was most excellent!!

  • Awesome. Enjoy your coffee. I often recommend an Aeropress for making a really good single cup of coffee, but it looks like you're all set now.

    Aeropress was one I had been thinking of getting, before this machine entered the scene.
    I tried the espresso-Moka-Pot thing, and it's rather too complicated and too tricky to get a decent brew, and messy to clean up. I picked up a second hand Chemex at one point, but it requires special filters and is a real pain to clean up too.

    Most of the time I just used the $5 pour-over Melitta cone, and it's surprisingly good. Bonus was that boiling the kettle allows her to make a cup of tea at the same time.
