Retired!

28 Jul 2021

As of today, I am now officially retired image

I decided to take an early retirement to allow for more time with friends and family, and for hobbies - including this tech/maker/creator hobby I just have not had enough time for lately.

And hey, perfect timing... The element14 shopping cart that I won for this spring's fun robot project arrived a few days ago!

Hi Nico, Glad you will have time to enjoy life a little. Retirement took a while for me to adjust to but I am very happy with it now. Sounds like you have a plan in place and that will help with the transition…

    Nico,

Making the decision to retire early is a biggie! I had a spread sheet set up showing me how my pension was growing and when it reached a point where my wife and agreed we could manage comfortably (she is still working, past pension age, because she loves it so much!!), I went for it.

    I have never regretted it!

My time is always fully occupied, doing what I want (mostly)!

I wish you all the very best for a long and happy retirement, especially with shopping cart(s)

My scenario was similar. I retired early and my spouse who loves her job, is continuing to work. Ironically, she got a promotion into a senior management position and a salary to reflect it. I'm now a kept man!

I have met a number of people who love their jobs. I loved the problem solving in my job. I hated the management. Let's underfund projects, over demand requirements and *** about the people who didn't deliver on requirements never listed. Then throw a celebrating success party that has more people in attendance than supported the project. Nothing like free booze to attract the sycophants.

I now play at electronics to generate animation on a groups model railroad layout using microcontrollers, microprocessors and python coding. I have friends that runs small businesses that have computer networks designed better than many companies. You want me to spend your money and create a stable network, yeah I can do that!

I now get to problem solve for fun. Most of the problems I create myself. ntewinkel for the first six months just relax. You will need time to purge the demand adrenaline,  requirements hormones and scheduling conflicts antibodies you have developed to survive. Given time they leave your system or realigned to fit the new you.

I asked the missus if she was working on Monday ( first Monday in August for Canada ). Her response, "It's a holiday, I told you that." Oh by the way, holidays will merge into regular days when you're retired. But wait, my buddy who is also retired says, holidays is when the riff raft shows up in cottage country.

Why the new career? 72 is lie down and die age but starting from scratch is rather late.
