Retired!

28 Jul 2021

As of today, I am now officially retired image

I decided to take an early retirement to allow for more time with friends and family, and for hobbies - including this tech/maker/creator hobby I just have not had enough time for lately.

And hey, perfect timing... The element14 shopping cart that I won for this spring's fun robot project arrived a few days ago!

My scenario was similar. I retired early and my spouse who loves her job, is continuing to work. Ironically, she got a promotion into a senior management position and a salary to reflect it. I'm now a…

Hi Nico, Glad you will have time to enjoy life a little. Retirement took a while for me to adjust to but I am very happy with it now. Sounds like you have a plan in place and that will help with the transition…

    Congrats on the new direction!

I'm very inspired by you and others who are not afraid to start something new like that.

    ... I'm now a kept man!

    You're living the dream!!!

My wife is talking about starting a new career of her own now (she's been struggling as an artist for a while now), so hey fingers crossed I might end up in that kind of paradise too!

I love the work I was doing too. Unfortunately, that particular project was really causing me all kinds of frustrations so I felt it was the right time to leave.

If a really fun project comes along, there's a pretty good chance I'll go back, but I won't do the 40+ hrs a week anymore.

    >for the first six months just relax. You will need time to purge the demand adrenaline,  requirements hormones and scheduling conflicts antibodies you have developed to survive. Given time they leave your system or realigned to fit the new you.

    Noted! That's excellent advice image

Some of the momentum will be used for good at the renovation, but that's still a nice break from the computer work.

Thanks for the retirement well wishes, everyone!

And also for the good advice and for sharing your personal experiences with retirement. You all have reinforced my decision and helping me feel that I really did make the right move image

So far so good on having no regrets re the computer work image

I have definitely not had much chance of sitting still for very long yet. We are still renovating the uncle's place and I expect we'll be busy with that for a few more months.

But we were also able to catch up with some friends we haven't seen in a while, which is super nice.
