Hi All,
I received a null modem adapter in the mail today - coupled to my serial-to-USB converter it works perfectly!
I know, I know, you're already missing all the little wires I had rigged up earlier
I also thought I'd test a few more samples, including the touch screen:
I had to dig out an old stylus pen from the days of Palm. It's quite the rockin' 3-in-1 pen/pencil/stylus, actually. It's going in the safe tonight now that the world knows I possess one of these precious gadgets
I also tested my SD card. I have a 2 GB Lexar, and they only say they've tried it with Kingston 1 or 2GB and Sandisk 2GB. I was able to do directory listings of the files on my card, and the example that runs a couple of little tests was quite happy too.
It seemed like that went well enough, and it gave me the courage to go back to trying to take a picture. And as luck might have it, it didn't hang this time! Sadly though, the card was then unreadable by my computer, so perhaps things weren't really as good as they seemed.
I decided to format the card and try again. This time it did save a picture, but hanged immediately after taking it. It seems to have trouble updating the dat file it creates for keeping track of the picture number.
Here is the picture exactly as it came off the card:
It's kind of fuzzy, probably because it's so close up and because we're all used to those awesome cameras that are built into our cell phones these days
So I might need to look for a compatible SD card and see if that works any better.
Or perhaps it will work well enough for me to read an html file off it and just have the web-cam picture be in memory only.
That's it for now. Next time I'll see about running the web server examples.
