Oops, it seems that I have left all of my serial cables back in the 90's.
To do many of the provided samples I'll need a db9 F-F null modem cable.
Aah that brings back memories 
I have a serial (M) to USB converter, so at least I've got it that far. As it turns out, I do have a serial cable from the days of me being an ecoEnergy advisor (the blower door comes with one) but it's a M-F so that won't work.
Guess I better go do some online shopping for a cable! ...or maybe just the connectors so I don't have to deal with a 10 foot cable when all I need is an inch 
I bet the local dollar store or thrift store would have them, or maybe a local computer store, but I've got this nasty cold that I shouldn't be passing along.
