Pole to Pole badge

Since E14 is all about gamification, I thought it would be appropriate to share a fitbit Pole-to-Pole badge that I just got.

And more appropriately to acknowledge what I think is an impressive design example - the fitbit One tracker.

My granddog, Lily,  just turned 7 years old last month.  When she was about 6 months old, my son got me a fitbit One for a birthday present.  I've used it non-stop since then.  Most of my mileage is from walks with Lily.  The pandemic and a wet winter have really hampered our walking since we only see her 4 days a week now.  But, I've still been able to eke out at least 30 miles a week.  Now that the sun is out more, we've managed a couple of 7-8 mile days.

I've been really surprised by the longevity of the fitbit One.  Really impressed by the battery performance.  The tracker syncs over Bluetooth.  I only need to charge the battery about every 10 days and it is still performing well after 6 1/2 years.  I can't imagine that this is a very large capacity battery - certainly under 100 mAh, so the power management is very good.

And this unit has suffered a lot of abuse - been dropped quite a few times - but it keeps on ticking (tracking).  It will be interesting to see how long the battery will last.  It's incredible to me that it has lasted this long.

I opted for the low-tech version. I call it the 'fatbit'. You place it around your waist and it has holes and a measurement pin which indicate the amount of expansion/contraction going on. It is also useful…

Dave, Hey, I thought I was the only one with a 'Fatbit'. Sadly, mine seems to be broken as it just keeps expanding. Dubbie

Congratulations Ralph. a very impressive lifetime distance!

I've been using fitbit since 2014; initially a one like yours, upgraded to a surge 2 years later.

I like the surge because it does heart rate as well as steps. I take most of my extra exercise using my static bike so my step count isn't as good as yours. My lifetime is 9,289 kilometres....Russian Railway.

    Keep stepping out!!

    Neil

ralphjy  Glad to hear your fitbit One lasted so long.  I have had two fitbit watches and neither of them lasted very long at all.  One could say that I had three because the first had to be warrantied in the first month.  THAT was an unpleasant process but somewhat understandable.  I replaced them with a $20 one that doesn't do heart rate and it's years old now.

    Congrats on the activity badge!!

I have not been allows to restart my Military History talks yet, but hopefully they will let us get back to having fun.

Actually, I did go a bit more hi-tech and got myself an Omron pedometer. It doesn't have Bluetooth but lasts over a year on a single CR2032 battery with daily use. I initially bought it as a pocket watch (ever tried to buy just a simple digital pocket watch these days ?), but it came useful later when recovering from an injury, as I could measure recovery progress by the number of additional steps it was taking to complete a known circuit.
