This is my first look at the new Beagle Bone Black, I am very impressed with the overall design. Some points not covered in the video include the use of an Adafruit ftdi friend as the serial converter for the debug serial port. the location of the debug header makes it hard to use with a cape installed. The hdmi video is not operational yet, but i expect it to be soon. the ability to start programming out of the box without downloading and flashing an image to an SD card makes it one of the fastest development platforms I have seen in a long time.
I am most familiar with ANSI C and may be using another distribution more suited to the task I'm going to be putting this to, but for the time being I am going to port an sketch from arduino to get familiar with the gpio and using the I2C on the Beagle Bone Black. I am interested in the programmable real time unit that could be used to sample a baseband signal in the background while running multiple FFT, 2000 MIPS should allow a fair amount bandwidth to be processed in real time
*note this is a prototype board and some features are not provided for yet like the headers for the battery management and the power button.
