Reliable use of @ to mention another forum member

neilk
neilk over 6 years ago

Some members don't appear when you try to mention them using the @ character

The most recent one in BigG - apologies to you for using you as my example

If I type @BigG I get a list of members, beginning with biggdan and ending with bradbiggs, after requesting 5 more, but no BigG?

I've seen this problem with other members, but haven't had the time to follow it up

Neil

This's a Jive CMS platform bug that we've tried to raise with them to get fixed, but they won't fix. The reliable way to tag people is to copy and paste their profile URL into content. For example if I…

You are very welcome Neil. I thought it a bit daft when, for example, I wanted user xyz and the listing would show five users: xya xyb xyc xyd xye and an option for more ...under more was always the one…

Exactly. It's almost as if it's trying to hide the person you're actually after. Add to that the fact that the user name and display name can be very different (myself included) and it's often difficult…

Hi neilk , A very good discussion is in this thread August 2019 Site Update and I use it all the time now, I too found the previous method a bit hit-and-miss

At least your avatar is nice and distinctive to allow some confidence the right person is being selected. I wonder how many mentions are made or received by the wrong person !

The reliable way to tag people is to copy and paste their profile URL into content. For example if I paste:

    https:// www.element14.com/community/people/neilk

Without the space after the //, we get:

    neilk
And you'll be tagged, and it'll create a link through to your profile page for anything to follow through to.

Exactly. It's almost as if it's trying to hide the person you're actually after. Add to that the fact that the user name and display name can be very different (myself included) and it's often difficult to mention someone. The paste idea sounds like a good workaround.
