solderless breadboards and relays

Former Member
Former Member over 12 years ago

I am looking for a 5v relay that will work well with a solderless breadboard.  I can search through the Newark site, but finding one that will work with a breadboard seems like a lot of work (I didn't see anyway to spec the pin layout). Anyone have a part number they KNOW works?  I'm looking to buy 100 pcs.

    Hi James,

The only ones I know of that may work are Reed Relays. There are some that have a DIP standard package type like 67K2324. The only down side to these is that the current ratings are usually kind of low. The 67K2324 is only rated for a switching current of 0.5A.

You can look at the PCB and/or through hole in the General Purpose and Solid State. However you will have to look through the data sheets to see if you can find one that works. If you do this route remember that breadboard hole spacing is 2.54mm or 0.1" and that usually the gap to bridge across is around 7.62mm or 0.3" (if I remember right). And for pin length if you go off of ICs around 3.55mm or 0.14".

I will also ask our Tech Support team if they know of any others and let you know what I hear back.

Thanks for keeping me on my toes!

    Jason G.

    Hi James,

Sorry for the delay but we have been unable to find anything further. The only other option that I can think of that you can do is use a relay that goes to a socket. Like Socket# 73J7752 and relay 11N0373 (these might be a bit over kill but you can get the idea).

Sorry I couldn't find you something more. Let me or our Tech Support know if you need any further help with this.

    Jason G.
