Hi,
I had three suggestions, the first suggestion being more useful I think.
It is easy to miss subscribing to notifications on content (including blogs, discussions and comments). For example, I am being notified about new blogs, but not new comments to a blog in this Actions box:
When a user writes a comment, they are usually interested to see a response, or even any other comment on that blog/discussion. Perhaps a quick way for a user to express interest (rather than have to seek that Actions box) could be to do it right at the point of writing the comment, with a new button:
If the user presses that button, then it should automatically turn both blog and comment notifications on I reckon. It could be reworded to "Reply and get ALL notifications" perhaps. Or a tooltip type thing which explains what it will do when a user hovers over it. In any case, I think it would be a useful feature, a user cannot object to the amount of notification being excessive, since they still have the "Reply" button to fall back to if they don't wish to click the new button.
The second suggestion was (don't know if this is a good idea or not) could be that when a user creates a blog or discussion, if there was a possibility for the user to add the following if desired. Or perhaps it could just be a button that is always displayed at the bottom of all content:
This second suggestion doesn't get rid of the need for the first suggestion, because it is still easy to miss, and it is better for comment-writers to immediately have the option to subscribe to notifications at the point of writing their reply.
The third suggestion is, whenever any user types a blog or discussion, this should automatically get activated, i.e. if the user really doesn't want notifications to their own blog/discussion then they need to deselect it.
What do you think?
