Editing ex-Jive blog posts

Hi,

I wanted to update some older blog posts, and have noticed a couple of things that might or might not be real issues, I can't currently tell.

Issue 1:

The images in the older blog posts appear fuzzy, they are lower-res than they originally were. In this blog post: /challenges-projects/design-challenges/pathtoprogrammable/b/blog/posts/xilinx-zynq-system-on-chip---getting-to-know-the-minized-board

This is what the text in an example image on that blog looks like:

It is just-about usable, is there any way of improving it? It was originally a sharp, much higher-res image.

Issue 2:

When I click on Edit to make changes to the blog, the images do not appear. Instead, I see this in the editor:

Since I do not want to lose the images, I have clicked on Cancel for now, and not updated the blog post. Will there be any problem with the images if I edit the blog? Will the image quality remain the same, or will the images get completely lost? Has anyone else seen this when editing an older blog?

I don't want to download all the images in a backup before I edit, because there are a lot of images, it would take me ages to edit blogs if I do that.

    You could try inserting a high res image before deleting the old image.

    Hi Doug,

    Good idea, that will work for blogs where I need to swap out the images for an update. Unfortunately for this blog post (and some others) I only wish to edit text, or add additional new images (without removing most of the old images). 

    I do have a backup of pretty much every image used in a blog, but it will take time to dig them up if things go wrong, since this is a 5-year-old blog, I don't have the images on my local disk, I need to find them. Some blogs may have a dozen or more images, it's a lot of work to manually replace them all if things go wrong. I wanted to modify the blog to keep it up-to-date, and I can do that without affecting most of the images.

    I just need confirmation that editing and saving a blog post won't wipe out the images that appear as "Image:xxxx.contentimage_xxxxxx.jpg", and secondly (icing on cake) can the images retain their original high-res'ness that there was pre-Verint.

    From my experience it shouldn't wipe out the image, but it sounds like you're in a good place to be able to test it and replace the image if it does for a blog post.

    What may have happened with this is that the script which was ran that pulled the image, could only grab the low resolution thumbnail that Jive used, and it didn't resolve to the full click-through high resolution image, which is also partly why it's broken when you click in it.

    We had some very weird issues with images when we went live and some content had to have the script re-ran on, and I think it became a bit hectic because of the very short timeline we had to transfer content across.

    We still have a copy of the old site and its files. If you have a list of the blog posts affected, I can ask the development team if there's some script they can re-run to reinstate the better quality images to save you doing it manually. Since these are blog posts we should be able to preserve their original 'post date' so that it doesn't flood the site with the fact that they've been updated.

    Thanks for the info, that worked, I edited the blog, and it didn't lose the older images. Although it would be good if they were still as high-res as they were when they were uploaded, it is fine, they are usable (just about) when zoomed in, so no need for developers to spend time re-running scripts just for these particular blogs.
