website performance: intermittent long pauses before replies

Since this afternoon (CET +- 14:00) the forum sometimes has performance issues.

General performance good, but then any page takes minutes before it renders / reacts /returns

When it happens, all open browsers are affected.

Frequency: a few times per hour. Not a lot, but for a decent timespan now.
