It’s not just technology that gets the geek juices flowing. With the culture around what a ‘geek’ is and does changing, people are happy to say they geek out over everything and anything from video games to literature. Geeking out has actually become an affectionate term to describe something that you’re passionate about.
For me, I have two major things I geek out over; Fantasy Fiction and Anime.
Seriously, don’t get me started on Fantasy Fiction unless you have at least three days. I write Fantasy Fiction myself and I’ve just self-published my first book (wink, wink). The genre is something I am extremely passionate about...Thinking about it, Fantasy Fiction was probably my gateway into Anime.
For all of you out there that share the same geek passion, here’s a quick list of my favorite Fantasy Fiction books and Anime series:
Fantasy Fiction
Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks
This is a series about absolutely mental and seriously gifted Assassins. A must read if you’re a fan of Assassins Creed!
Godspeaker Trilogy by Karen Miller
This is seriously dark but excellently written. The series covers a character's entire lifetime which really makes for great reading.
Age of the Five by Trudi Canavan
This series pretty much has everything; religious fanatics, Gods, False Gods. It also has some great plot twists too!
Anime
Hunter X Hunter
This is my all time favorite anime; Fantastic storyline, great characters and awesome fight scenes. My only regret is that they didn’t continue it past the Chimera Ant Arc, or at least the anime didn't. The Manga has carried on but is sporadic as the creator often has breaks due to poor health.
Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Bladeworks
A slightly more obscure one, but I stumbled on this one evening and binge watched all the episodes within two days. Brilliant concept and one of the best storylines I’ve ever come across. Agin, it has great fight scenes and some seriously engrossing characters.
Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Pretty self-explanatory if you’re into anime. Fantastic redemption story with one of the most iconic anime characters ever, Edward Elric, and with the live action adaptation just round the corner now is the perfect time to watch it!
