In the summer of 2019 I was visiting my 83 year old Aunt in her 100 year old home. Home improvement shows had convinced her that white light switches and plugs were more ecstatically pleasing. A change…

I had foolishly removed the two, three way light switches at either end of the hallway without documenting the connections. You are not alone on that one - now if the wiring behind a fitting or socket…

There have been many many times when I've been visiting a friend or relative and they say "While you're here, can you take a look at this - it's not working". Of course I have no tools with me, and all…

Yes, I can admit to forgetting tools and bits and pieces for the job when accessing a stack to install a wireless camera to monitor a birds nest.

    image

The camera was installed on the top gantry of the closest stack to look into a nesting box we built and installed. The control panel, batteries and solar panels went on the opposite side on the gantry below the top gantry.

It is also a place where you start to realise tool tethers also have a great use.

I think my record for this stack was 9 trips up and back down again in one day, due to various levels of forgetfulness. Well worth the effort though, over the years, they have had both Kestrels and Peregrine Falcons rear their young in the nest box.

    image

The nest box always seemed a little big for the Kestrels but they didn't seem to mind. We used to bump into the Peregrine chicks on the ground whilst they were learning to fly, we even caught one hopping up the staircase to the ACC, you can see just on the left of the first picture, to get some more height before launching for another flying practice.

    Kind regards.

I have often found myself at the top of a ladder without the tool I needed, but your ladders are in a different league!

"...but your ladders are in a different league!"

There's always a 1768' guided tower climb if you want a bit of exercise / vertigo...

The Millau Viaduct inspection climb is another interesting climb as the tallest pylon is around 250m plus then the 87m mast on top of it. Just a pity that there are 7 pylons to inspect...
