Revenge of the 5th

hfN2kDS.jpgDid you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise? I thought not. It's not a story the Jedi would tell you...

So yesterday was a rather well-known "holiday" of sorts, celebrating a certain order of Knights which for thousands of generations were the guardians of peace and Justice in the Old Republic. And yes, historically the element14 community has shown it's allegiance to the Republic, to democracy. But you should have known the Jedi were plotting to take over!

But do not fear. I have seen through the lies of the Jedi. I have brought peace, freedom, justice, and security to my new element14...

Revenge of the 5th

... Or realistically, I was out of town attending JiveWorld17 and this is my first time in the office all week. I spent May the 4th on an airplane, before falling into a brief post-travel coma. I have failed you, element14. I have failed you. But I still wanted to keep the tradition going... from a certain point of view. So instead, we're going to celebrate Revenge of the Fifth with a limited Sith-inspired badge available  now until 12:00PM CDT on Monday.

All weekend? Is that... legal?

I will make it legal.

Since this is going up fairly late in the day for our friends in a galaxy far, far away (read: Europe and Asia) we wanted to make sure they had a chance to seek the true nature of the Force.

How do I earn the Badge?

Vote in the poll for your for your favorite Star Wars, and comment below with your reasons why.

Why is Rogue One on the list?

Okay, listen. Originally I wasn't going to include it for somewhat arbitrary reasons (it didn't have an opening crawl! it's not an Episode!) but then the "how do I earn the badge" sentence turned into something like "vote in the poll for your favorite currently released Episode of..." and you know what? Screw it. K2-SO was great.

May the Force ever serve you.

Watched them and reenacted some famous scenes in the local arcade: if the proton torpedos went into the exhaust vent you really were Luke Skywalker sat in that plywood machine

The short answer is yes - you are the only one. But I'm curious as to why ....

While the original movies didn't have CG, they di have to invent new technolgy to do the filming. So we have George Lucas to thank for that. Mark

I didn't get into Star Wars originally when I was young, it's only in more recent years I discovered how brilliant these films are!

I have to go with A New Hope.  It sparked the fire in our imagination that only grew as time passed by!

I like the first episode ever filmed, because it was a new great big science fiction story with lots of tech. I liked the last episode filmed because it is new with a new cast. The stories or plots don't focus on great acting, so changing up the cast brings new hope for character development.

The true genius of the genre is how they successfully commercialized the franchise into all the other industries like toys and games and clothing.

There is SO MANY good aspects to each of the movies (yes even the prequels) I could never pick a favorite.  Almost like how, myself being a long time musician and lover of music could never pick my all time favorite band.

At the time, sci-fi wasn't very big in cinemas, but when Star Wars hit the big screen people went kind of crazy over it. image   Everyone was blown away by the movie and it was all people could talk about for months on end. At the time it was big, very big... and probably responsible for changing cinema into what we experience today. Possibly the first significant use of special effects that people had ever encountered in a cinema and which were considered a rather risky business at the time.

Not to make you feel old or anything, but I was four years old then.  What was the "culture / atmosphere thing that was going on"?
