Poll: Are you a Materials Engineer? Or, Are You Interested in Materials Engineering?

Most of the element14 community's content is focused on electronic design engineers or the maker/hobbyist who is in a learning mode or just wants to have some fun. But one of things that makes electronics really happen is the materials and the materials engineering that goes into semiconductors, printed circuit board fabrication, or even the materials used for dielectric materials in capacitors. And I can't forget mentioning the materials and alloys that are used for electrical contacts, which is always a balance between conductivity and durability. So, I am interested in learning how many materials engineers we have on element14. Or even who is interested in materials engineering. Please vote in my poll below.

I'm not a materials engineer, but have found that knowledge of materials and their properties is often crucial to success, so I am definitely interested.

I agree with Douglas, recently I've been working on a lab apparatus to generate a temperature gradient across an axis. Using the right  materials has become an important aspect of the project, as I need to select some based on their thermal properties and others based on their mechanical properties.

I have a degree in mechanical engineering but then also took courses in materials science to get what was the equivalent of a materials engineering degree from the university I attended.  While I have never worked as a materials engineer all my work is and was done with / on materials :-) - like most engineers.  I keep up with materials science probably more than most but can’t call myself a materials engineer.

    Hello Randall,

Is this about materials in the electric/electronic field only? -ask because of the examples in the poll are only related to this-. I'm interested in the mechanical properties of materials -which interests me because of the various 3d prints and design I'm usually involved- and I'm not sure whether this poll goes towards that too.

    Luis.
