Most underrated technology/thing till date ?

I was having a thought on electric vehicles - that these should have been fully evolved till now, considering all the pollution, consumption of fossil fuel. So, what's the problem?

Then I realized it will effect economy of country, fuel is one of the most efficient sources of money collection for government. Also it will effect many establishments. I might be wrong, what you think?

So, choose - what technology you think should have been in our life ages ago & should have been common among all of us to this day - Your thoughts?

OR

Technology which might have changed the way we live now. Which technology you think would have great impact how we live now?. - Your thoughts?

Tell me:
- Are we really late or on time for all of the technology mentioned below?
- Why are we so late? Can think of any reason?

OR

Which technology is not even developed yet?

Expecting, thoughts of everyone here, please comment even silly one's like this silly poll will be appreciated.. image

Excellent question.  Why aren't we advancing more in certain areas?  We all know that it boils down to money, but are we truly at a point where we can't afford to innovate?  Or do we have unrealistic expectations on what a reasonable return on investment is?  Again, it is good that we ask this question from time to time.

"....but nothing much has happened still."

I suspect that you may find that the <type of energy> giants have being funding the research or buying the patent rights to the technology required to progress this and then sitting on them waiting until they have sold the last drop of <type of mineral deposit>, at which point they are then in a good position to become the renewable energy giants of the future. See above with regards to NiMH batteries which for several years prevented electric cars from progressing.

Even more, everything related to the ocean is probably less explored than outer space. Not as exciting, but probably just as dangerous.

Unfortunately, there was a tidal turbine here in the Bay of Fundy, which got shut down because the company went bust.

    • Huge amounts of power available - limited almost by size of area utilised
    • Reliable flow twice every 24 hours
    • Known about and studied for several decades
    • Clean energy (not withstanding discussions on marine damage/silting/interuption to spawning etc)

....but nothing much has happened still.
