Arduino vs Raspberry PI

We all recognize both platforms to be very good. Some of us fans of Arduino , Some of us fans of Raspberry.. There are even some that enjoy using both. I think this poll would help in assisting new enthusiasts in deciding what works for them. Please tell us which platform you like to use or favor and why..

  • The 2 platforms are quite different even though there are many variants of each. Clearly there are many different applications where one or the other would be much better suited to the task. Generally Pi's are better for more complex projects heavy on software and graphics and Arduino is better at smaller projects with lots of hardware interfacing.

    However there are many applications that can be done by either platform and for these I would almost always choose an Arduino because it is going to be a smaller, more portable device with shorter development and lower power consumption.

    I think of the Pi as occupying a niche between the massive microcontroller market and the gigantic PC market. That niche can be expanded into ether big market, but not too far before it is clearly not the best solution. Of course that "little" niche still has a sweet spot with millions of cool potential applications in it.
