There are all kinds of reasons why you cannot get around to making, but what conditions or events or motivators inspire you put time and effort into making?
Lots of things... At this point in my life I can do what I want. I enjoy learning and doing things with and for the grandkids. And copied from your very good list the following:
I see something that looks like an interesting challenge
I look for new ideas that I can learn from as I make something interesting
I have a bucket list of things to make and sometimes I find enough spare time to tackle one of them
The extra motivation of a possible prize gets me off the couch (but only some of the time)
I enjoy the satisfaction and accomplishment of making stuff

I guess I use pretty much all of the excuses above at different times and maybe a few more that aren't listed. I am looking forward to the time when I can "do what I want" - that sounds great - although I'm not optimistic I will ever get to that stage, life has too many commitments and constraints.
