Arduino-day series - Autonomous robotic arm with Arduino

This is the second blog post in a series of posts celebrating 10 years of Arduino! This series highlights how Arduino has powered a number of innovations in the field of education and engineering.

Robotic arms are used extensively  for numerous tasks from car assembly to picking up rocks on Mars. This video illustrates how you can build your own autonomous robotic arm using Arduino Mega with Simulink. You can learn how a robotic arm can be programmed to identify an object placed in front of it, pick it up and place it elsewhere.

One of many ways Arduino is making industrial applications accessible to the Maker community:

    Hi Shabaz,

Thanks for your feedback, I would love to talk to you to learn more about price point and other product needs for makers. I just sent you a contact request,  please approve the request so that we can discuss this offline.

    Hi Anuja,

We would all like to use MATLAB, but the cost is a little high : (

There is a unique opportunity for MATLAB for the maker community, because it's still virtually an untapped market for simulation tools.

In the UK, the cost to individuals is £102 (including VAT) but then the toolboxes are £30 each, and people could need half a dozen. That's close to £300, which is getting out of reach for many people I'm guessing, since we won't use it daily to get full value for money.

It could put people off even purchasing the base license, because they know they will have to spend more for the useful (for them) toolboxes.

Are you interested in knowing what we feel is a fairer price/bundle? If so, we can provide suggestions/justifications to help you approach the product team with.

To summarize, I think demand for MATLAB would increase to a great extent in this market if the price was reduced or a fairer bundle was available for makers, or for the Element14 community, which are the users that will likely also purchase the commercial license one day (or approach their managers and request budget), since they will then be familiar with it.
