Arduino Uno couple questions before I buy Im new

1) I understand that the board has 14 outputs on it. I would like to use these to control a board with 14 or 16 relays

Not sure where to look for this any ideas

2). I know you can download a software program to control the Uno. Can I use something like hyper Terminal to send the same commands

Hi Rick,
There are several relay modules available that claim to work with Arduinos, such as
16 Channel 5V/12V Mini-Relay Module [BK_RL16_01] - $30.90 : ElecFreaks Store
To control them from Hyper Terminal would require a small program to be written for your Uno.

There are also relay modules that can connect directly to USB and be controlled directly from Hyper Terminal, such as:

If you are getting started with Arduino then I would suggest you take a look at the Arduino Playground.
