Need Help Measuring water volume

I am a relative newcomer to arduino, but I need to make a display in the house which will tell me how much water is stored in my water tanks (max 15,000 litres) 30 meters from the house, I think the best method would be to use differential pressure and transmit the reading by wi-fi to an LCD screen in the house. Has anyone done this before? Can anyone help?

    Hmm, could you mount an ultrasonic distance sensor under the lid of the container (assuming the water doesn't reach the top ).. then use that to measure how far away the water is?

    This will provide you the exact volume of water present..

    You can find the height of the water by any method stated above but to find out the volume you need to take care of the structure of the container.... and for that you need to calculate the volume of the structure by using Integration (Calculus..)

    Hydrostatic pressure is not my original Idea?...OUH NO!!! but still my idea is to use the sensor anywhere in the pipeline that connected to water tank...still worth it...

    What accuracy do you need?

    A Maxbotix ultrasonic sensor can handle this range.

    I have a differential pressure sensor which measures the difference
    in pressure between 2 inlet tubes. If I connect one side of the sensor to the
    top of a pipe inside the tank which is open at the bottom and sealed at the top
    and leave the other side of the sensor open to the atmosphere, when the water
    level rises in the pipe the pressure will increase, and the open side of the
    sensor will read the atmospheric pressure. This should eliminate the problem of
    changing weather conditions.

    My problem is programming the Arduino to calculate the scale
    and transmit the results to the house.
