@Brendan Your video is somewhat adequate for the intended purpose, however, from an engineer's point of view it is lacking in providing pertinent facts. Such as the part number, data sheet, and source…

Jeremy, thanks for your intro videos. I am just getting started myself in Arduino though I have done some simple electronics projects using Atmel chips. Here is an example using ATTiny13 chips. www.youtube…

Hi Jeremy I've built a device (see picture) with an Arduino and Ethernet shield that connects to our Network Monitor (Nagios) and moves an arrow to indicate if any of the computers we monitor are not responding…

Hello, I am completely new to arduino and microcontroller programming. For now I already made a few small projects (easy stuff - from tutorials I found).

I would like to ask you, how I have to assemble the Prototype Shield A000025 (Farnell Product Number 1848696) which I received today. After searching in the web, I found several different Prototype Shields from different manufactures and almost all of them have a tutorial how to assemble it. But the print I received looks completely different from all others. The Layout looks like this:

    Fullscreen contentimage_176748.html Download
    <html><head><title>Jive SBS</title></head>
    <body><font face="arial,helvetica,sans-serif">
    <b>Error</b><br><font size="-1">
An general error occurred while processing your request.
    </font></font></body></html>

The content of the Package arrived today from farnell/Element14 is:

    - the prototype print itself

    - 3 5mm LED's (green, yellow, red)

    - 15 Resistors (5 x 1 kOhm, 5 x 220 Ohm, 5 x 10 kOhm)

    - 2 Tactile switches

    - 1 40 pin male header

    - 1 2 by 3 pin male header

I am missing 2 times a 6 pin female header and 2 times a 8 pin female header (with long pins in order to connect them to the arduino and use the females on top for connections with the mini breadboard i would like to tape on top). Like you could see on the next picture:

The package did not include any female pin headers at all

    image

    - Could you please tell me, which Resistors have to be used and where (on the print I can only figure out that 2 Resistors are needed, but not which one)?

    - I think the Resistors are used for the 2 LED's, so which R would then be the right one for the 5mm LED's which came with it?

    - I am also unsure how the reset switch (package contains 2 switches) has to be connected to the arduino uno, in order to use the reset on the protoshield (on the print it is marked at the right side (centered), close to the ICSP Connectors, but I could not find any further connections on the print directly

    - Is it possible to bring up the ICSP connector to the prototype shield? Arduino Board has a 2 by 3 pin male connector and the protoshield package contains only another 2 by 3 pin male connector - how should they fit (femal pins missing)?

Sorry for my bad english - I probably made some mistakes or I used the wrong names for some parts.

Thank you very much for any help in assembling this protoshield.

    Many regards,

    dragonfly.67

The 220ohm resistors are for the LEDs.

The reset switch should only be able to go on one way, on the 4 pads right above the arduino logo.

The ICSP should be inserted through the 6 holes on the top, so the leads extend down, allowing it to be plugged in to the arduino

Thanks a lot Jeremy. Do you know, where I can get the "Arduino Stackable Headers" with extralong pins here in Switzerland? I could not find anything like that at http://ch.farnell.com, nor at any other electronic component retailer here in switzerland.

These Female Headers where not included with the Farnell Article 1848696 (Arduino Protoshield). Neither the ICSP Connector to bring it up to the protoshield was included.

    Regards, Nelson

Agreed.  A TI launch pad, or a AVR atmel might also be good if you're ready to get a bit more advanced.
