Looking for Arduino GPS feedback?

jnissen
jnissen over 14 years ago

I have done a bunch of searches for GPS boards and units used with the Arduino. I was about ready to order: http://www.sparkfun.com/products/9758  but I see the reliability of that GPS unit was terrible. Anyone have any idea if the replacment LS20031 is any better?

Hi, Have you checked DIY-DRones? This is the big Arduino-based project to built navigation units for small aircraft etc...: http://store.diydrones.com/ The prices are good...

I have been looking at: http://store.diydrones.com/MediaTek_MT3329_GPS_10Hz_Adapter_Basic_p/mt3329-02.htm  which is widely used... And you can browse thru their GPS page..

I also bought a couple of these:  http://cgi.ebay.com/GlobalSat-BR-355-PS2-GPS-Receiver-SIRF-III-Laptop-/330506818104?pt=GPS_Devices&hash=item4cf3bdd238#ht_1382wt_1139  and there are lots of others at Ellen Yang's site in Singapore. This is a nice small size to mount atop a Robot.

I am trying to source a good low-cost GPS in China. I hope to have some you can order online in a couple of weeks at http://yourduino.com   I am later hoping to have an Arduino "Electronic Brick" based on these: http://www.hoperf.com/rf_fsk/gps.htm  This would connect with a 3-pin cable to Arduino and be able to be mounted on top of a robot vehicle etc.. "Electronic Bricks" look like this: http://yourduino.com/ElectronicBricks1.htm

The USB units like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/GlobalSat-ND-100S-Mini-GPS-USB-DONGLE-GPS-Receiver-/330531410402?pt=GPS_Devices&hash=item4cf53511e2#ht_2054wt_1139 are nice and small and cheap, but having Arduino work as a USB "Host" is nontrivial...  But they could probably be hacked to get at the serial NMEA stream. Maybe...

Lots of information of ALL kinds here: http://gpsinformation.net/

Please let us know what you decide and later what your experience is!

    Regards, Terry King
