Howdy,
I bought a Velleman 3-D Christmas tree kit but found the fixed blinking pattern a bit boring:

So I decided to mod it by hooking up the switching transistors to digital pins on a breadboard Arduino clone and fading the LED segments in and out with random patterns via analogWrite():

Now that I have a working prototype, I look forward to soldering the components on a protoboard attached to the base of the tree to make an attractive holiday decoration.
