Arduino 3-D Christmas tree mod

Howdy,


I bought a Velleman 3-D Christmas tree kit but found the fixed blinking pattern a bit boring:

So I decided to mod it by hooking up the switching transistors to digital pins on a breadboard Arduino clone and fading the LED segments in and out with random patterns via analogWrite():

Now that I have a working prototype, I look forward to soldering the components on a protoboard attached to the base of the tree to make an attractive holiday decoration.

    Doing the Project Xmas Tree during the year at so many schools, the last thing I want to tackle is another xmas tree ...

     

    Not sure if it's the same, but xmas seems to have come up fast this year.
