minimum pins needed to program arduino?

Hey everyone,

Sorry to ask such a stupid questions but I have looked at some many schematics I have confused myslef. I am embedding my 328p in my new project and am trying to work out a way to be able to update my program without having to pull the pic and reprogram it and so on. I would like to add a simple USB port or even a 3.3v FTDI pins. So if anyone knows where I can find and explanation of exactly what pins need to be hooked up and if I need a resistors and do I need a reset switch? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I use Arduino board with the chip removed and jumper pins TX, RX, GND. 5V, and Reset.

I use an FTDI board on all my home built embeds, I use a 100nF capacitor from the RTS line on the FTDI board to the reset pin on the 328p.
the reset pin also has a 10k pullup resistor (as normal).
