What starter kit would you recommend for an Arduino Starter?

Hello to all!

I am fairly new to the world of Arduino.

I have $50 to spend on an arduino hardware. I've looked around at some starter kits and so far, I plan to get:

An arduino microcontroller,
A LCD sheild,

A sensor

I found a kit that might be what I want, www.sainsmart.com/sainsmart-uno-lcd-keypad-prototype-shield-hc-sr04-distance-sensor-kit-4-arduino.html

So far that costs $37.79 on www.sainsmart.com. Are there any better offer or combination?

I have some motors with gear boxes and potentiometers that I used for school projects which I can recycle.

I know that I'll need resistors but I don't know how many of which resistances.

Is there anything else alike sensors etc. that I might need or you think would be fun or good to learn with?

I dont mind extending the budget if I have to.

Hi, Instead of buying kits I would prefer buying the parts seperately (from Ebay). This gives you more flexibility to learn and understand more.

I agree with Serya KARA about buying just the pieces you want from the independent sellers on eBay.

I would suggest oomlout.com for a great tutorial: http://www.oomlout.com/a/products/ardx/
Buy all the pieces required for that tutorial and you won't be bored for a while

They also sell kits if you'd prefer the quick and easy route.
