Need suggestion on the starter kit

randyskelly
randyskelly over 13 years ago

My last post is about Transmit data to the display from the lidar sensor, but after some failed trial, I figured it's difficult to get me started.

I think it's better to get a starter kit to get me into Arduino. I did a little bit search about it. It seems that the starter kit from sparkfun, this one for example, has good reputation, but with the price, there are more components in the starter kits from SainSmart, like this one, which has a distance sensor, seems a good appeal. But don't know if their tutorials are good or not.

My aim right now is to test the distance range and show it on LCD. I have a 1602 LCD from ebay.

What's your suggestion on the starter kit?

    Hi Randy,

There is one this site www.bhashatech.com, in the kits section check for component kit. it has lot of different components which help us to get started with Arduino/Freeduino.

Infact my book freeduino.begin() , The ultimate beginners guide for Freeduino/Arduino platform uses this component kit to demostrate all kinds of cool things to do using Freeduino

    and the starter component kit.

    Cheers

    Sid

    Hi Sid.

I did like the look of the paperback version of "Freeduino.begin()" as a beginners manual for my group especially at £4.34

However with the cost of shipping being £14.94  on top of the book price it rapidly becomes very expensive for a small book.

I'm afraid in comparison to things like "Getting started with sketches" which is only £8.99 with free postage in the UK I feel it becomes too expensive for people to consider without a good insight into it's coverage of the subject..

Similarly you can by both the Simon Monk books in the series from Amazon including postage for less than buying "Freeduino.begin()" from yourself and they are very good books too.

If "Freeduino.begin()" was available via Farnell/Element 14 then I would definitely get a copy if only to review it for my group as further suitable learning material for the Arduino platform.

Good luck with the book anyway

    Dale H.
