Hi i'm a newbie here.... i have a question

can i programming an ATMEGA328 not ATMEGA328P chip

without using FTDI.....thank you!

Hi Mark i read your discussion.i am new to this and bought 10 ATMEGA 328-PU and want to burn the aurdino bootloader to it.i have usbasp and tried to burn the bootloader but not successful in doing that.can you please help me and teach me how to do it please.I will be greatly thankful to you.

Do you already have an Arduino UNO, if so then this is a great way to do what you need

they both take the same boot loader, I use both interchangeably all the time and have not noticed any difference
you will either ned an ISP loader or another Arduino of some kind in order to program the chip, wither that or invest in a formal programmer from Atmel. The ISP is the cheapest to go with

google this "isp programmer Arduino" and you will see loads for about 5$ and loads of articles on how to use them

Peter i have usb asp programmer and when i try to bootload the ardino bootloader i got an error

avrdude: error: programm enable: target doesn't answer. 1
avrdude: initialization failed, rc=-1
Double check connections and try again, or use -F to override
this check.

without seeing the programmer, I suspect it connects to the arduino like device using the RX/TX pins, not the MOSI/MISO/SCK lines and therefore unless the 328 already has a boot loader you will get that error

If these chips do not have a boot loader you will need either an ISP programmer or a dedicated one. Is there anychance you have a friend with an UNO or similar 328 based board, if you could borrow it, it would talk you not much time to program all your chips with the boot loader then you can upload sketches with the ASP programmer you have. (Keep one of the chips to use as a programmer for future 328 chips while your at it.

I am trying to bootload using MOSI/MISO/SCK lines it that possible i seen tutorials online for programming atmega328 with usbasp
