OMG who wants 2 teach their Arduino 2 text?

I was in New York last week and picked up this Arduino GPRS shield from Seeed Studios.  I thought it'd be fun to give it away to a member of this Arduino group to see what can be done with it:

Here's wiki for the board:

I'm going to give this shield for free it to one lucky Community member (sorry, no minors, you must be 18 years of age or older):

  • Reply to this post with a short description of why you are interested (1 to 2 sentences is fine)
  • I'll will pick a winner at random on Tuesday, Ocotor 1st, at 5pm US CDT.

Note: I'm located in Chicago and will ship it for free to the winner using the lowest cost option available.  If the winner is located outside the US, then the winner will be responsible for paying any customs fees or duty that may apply.  I will list the value as $35 USD.

Cheers,

Drew

I am making a Letterbox shaped like a PC. It has a window in the side, full motherboard, LEDs inside etc. CD rom tray will be adapted to take mail, Solar panel on top to power it, Arduino inside with sensors to detect mail and send us a TXT when we have new mail at the mail box. The Arduino also will control the lights inside the PC Mailbox imageimage

Ive a garden project in the works that could benefit from this.  Soil moisture, temperature monitoring and the appropriate reponses.

I am making a humidity/temperature control center to keep my instrument collection healthy. I will control the humidifier and heater from an arduino to be controlled via text messages. The unit will be housed in a guitar with indicator LEDs running up the length of the neck.

My UNO doesn’t have many friends. I wonder if this could allow it to text other Arduino Uno’s and find happiness?

I've been looking at creating a custom wheelchair mounted cell phone for a friend who has severe Cerebral Palsy.  It would be something like the AmeriPhone which would have an address book and one finger access to scroll through a contact list and one finger to dial.  For texting it would use a list of canned requests and responses.  She's been hit by a car twice now so maybe even have it dial 911 or text automatically gps location if it detects an impact.

I'm working on a solar powered GeoCache that could really benefit from this shield.
