Wearable Tech: Tech, Fashion, Art, All of the Above or None of the Above? Is Wearable Tech just a toy to engineers or does it have a function?

Okay, you have me rolling on that one!  I live footsteps from just such a collection of armor and you are absolutely right about the craftsmanship when it comes to the military.  Certainly the history of wearables has much to do with the military. I know one of my inspirations for learning about this stuff was when I met someone working on a military project creating conductive fabric that would allow embedded sensors for toxic gases, heart monitors and the like.

Ha ha!, this whole conversation makes me wonder what are the visible signs of a techie. People used to have big pouches for their phones back in the day, and I know I used to wear a pager. Circular slide…

I'm afraid I only have some small experience with guitar, but I certainly appreciate music. Had a chance to look up Circle of Fifths and tuning options. Lots to see and hear, and I actually liked the uneven…

    Hi Leslie,

Coming out of the dark DOD world, I can tell you that the interest and potential of wearable technology is huge.

The ability to monitor people in real time during high stress operations alone would save many lives each day.

I think it essential for collecting all kinds of real time data in contact sports.  Knowing the details about injuries is essential in selecting the right treatments quickly.

I could go on, but I think you get the picture.

    Hi everyone,

I just wanted to let you know that Leslie is in New York today cohosting the "Wearable Electronics with Becky Stern" show. Watch her live at 2 EST.

If you can't watch her live, make sure to watch the recording on YouTube.

Leslie will probably be offline today, but she will return tomorrow and resume this very interesting discussion. image
