Could you please explain why you will use 4 shift registers to control 32 LEDs? In the project I did, I controlled 64 LEDs with only 2! I think there might be a more efficient way to control the LEDs with less SRs, unless the LEDs matrix is connected in a weird way. I noticed that the Arduino you are using is different to the one I used, that might be the case, but I am not sure though.

I Had some trouble wiring LEDs in a matrix , so I decided to try multiple shift registers to control the same idea (ie 16 or 32 LEDs in a row)
Might practice with matrix/s till I get the hang of it
