Arduino project raises $165k

Not sure if people have seen this:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/274168493/novi-security

It is a security solution that appears to use an ATmega328 according to the photos of the PCB (CAD rendering) on the site, and nRF24L01 for

wireless, in order to send HD images to a base station.

It would appear that the transmission would be unencrypted (I've not used an nRF24L01 so I'm not sure).  The ATmega328 certainly

is not sophisticated enough to do this with the resources it has.

As much as I like the ATmega, it seems a very inappropriate solution (one image per 10 seconds at best I guess), yet has raised $165k.

Anyone else surprised at KS lack of due diligence at vetting these things for feasibility?

I'm just amazed KS don't insist on such projects being approved by an independent electrical/electronic engineer beforehand.

well for sure the NRF does not have encryption, it has only a 32byte transmit buffer and a very short range

so as you said, the sensor to base would be en-encrypted or use a simple basic/custom scramble of the data

the base must be the one providing the HTTPS web capability but i did not see photos good enough to determine its components

Also a smoke / gas detector to be deemed as such for the home requires a lengthy and costly approval process so perhaps it is for "Entertainment Purposes" only ??
