I need help!

matija.martinec

So i myself am a big arduino fanboy, I spend more than 2h a day learning something new with arduino, but how can I get others (mostly my friends) interested too.

NOTE - they mostly don't like ,as they call it "smart stuff", but if I could somehow only show them cool stuff you can do with it, but I have no idea how image.I would really like to do some kind of a club in which we could have fun and learn stuff.

    Matija,

What do your friends do? Find something they do and you can naturally incorporate the Arduino. Like a door bell that when you push plays your favorite MP on a speaker! The Arduino should be able to get the door bell and use the PWM on a simple speaker and simulate some sounds. Research before you build. Otherwise get a shield that does this...

    Have fun too,

    Clem

totally agree with clem57 , find what turns their crank, could be sports related, remote control, or simply making lights flash, good luck with the interrogation image

Hi Matija, Another idea is to look around and see if you can find some new friends who do share your interests. I spent a lot of time trying to get my friends interested in electronics but for the most part they did not share my enthusiasm. Someone who likes and gets good at electronics is somewhat rare.

Thank you, that is a great idea man, but the only problem is that they really don't do anything else than drinking. I tried to show them automation of my room - nothing, controling al 5x5x5 rgb led cube - nothing, but sometimes they seem to be interested in some things like that but it is rare just as you said :/

Once again thank you man image.

    Hi Matija,

I would be interested in seeing some of the things you have done with the Arduino. When it comes to Arduino I am a beginner. I bet I could learn some new things from you.

Might be time to find a new set of friends.

The old saying about leading a horse to water, but you can't make them drink, applies here (although they already drink).

See if there electronics or robot clubs in the area.

If you are confident you may be able to talk to your local school about assisting with electronics, perhaps as an after school activity.

Some people are just not into electronics no matter how cool, easy, interesting or useful it is, despite using it every day.

    Mark

I plan on doing a lot of things related to Arduino and Raspberry Pi, just as soon as I refine stuff to look nice, you know for the style points image

Sounds awesome. When I first started programming for the AVR series MCU's, I think my first app was flashing LEDs, but then I started adding buttons so the LEDs would toggle when buttons were pressed. I think to get someone interested in electronic projects, the project would have to be something they can understand the concept of. Could be a good way to get a group together, take something you know how to do, and go over it step by step with your friends. They would probably feel proud like it was a huge accomplishment when something they built actually works, especially for the first project even if it's flashing an LED.

I started programming with Atmel Studio and AVR32 MCU's like the UC3A3 series 32 bit MCU, then I switched to AVR 8-bit which is much easier.

My last project was building a circuit board that had two ATmega328p MCU's on it controlling 4 SPI flash roms, and a bunch of digital logic.

Then I made an ATmega programmer shield for Arduino Uno, and came up with a Visual Basic.net app to send data from HEX files to the MCU on the Arduino shield to program the AVR in the shield.

Strangely, even though Arduino uses the Atmel MCU's, Atmel Studio gives you the HEX files directly, while Arduino knocks out that step and places the code onto the MCU for users, but not all the features become available when using an Arduino board. The MCU out of circuit is a bit more powerful than when on an Arduino board, but it is still very nice, especially for beginners. I think I went through all the Arduino example projects in a day or two, but I've been programming for 15 years so they seemed pretty elementary yet still fun to play around with.
