My new Electronics Blog

Former Member
Former Member over 10 years ago

hey everyone, not sure where posts like this go or if they're even allowed (can't find a post with the forum rules here. tried search extensively but could only find other people's post that start with "i hope this isn't against the rules.....", so please don't say "try searching" lol), but i have started a blog that will be all things electronics. there will be reviews, teardowns, tutorials, general info, etc.

Not trying to be the next Ben Heck or EEVBlog, but would like to contribute any knowledge i feel could be helpful to beginners. so anyway, the blog is located at http://Zakkblog.com

if this post needs to be moved or simply is against the rules, just let me know and i'll move/remove it.

I was watching and wondered why you picked 5 volt instead of 3.3 volt on bluetooth? My guess would be 3.3 would heat up the regulator on the bluetooth less. Right?

the RN-41 itself runs on 3.3V (http://dlnmh9ip6v2uc.cloudfront.net/datasheets/Wireless/Bluetooth/Bluetooth-RN-41-DS.pdf), but the one i'm using is on a breakout board from Sparkfun, and i'm not really sure what the dropout is on the voltage regulator they've put on the Bluetooth Mate breakout, so i've always just used 5V with it. So my personal reason is just that i've never tried using 3.3V on it lol. Probably something i should try, not like it could hurt anything.

Dropout should be low so long as the wiring is short. Let me know what you think when trying it.

    Thanks Zakk alias khemical7

tried it out a bit and seems to work just fine. think i might start just using the 3.3V line for that.. now i suppose i could order a 3.3V Pro Mini lol
