Arduino Compatible?

In looking for Arduino controller modules and shields, I found a variety of other manufacturers including:

 

Sparkfun

Sunfounder

Vilros

SainSmart

Kootek

AdaFruit

TinkerKit

 

Are the products made by these companies in fact Arduino compatible? Any that are not? Any of these companies or products I should be weary of?

  • If they state their shields are Arduino compatible, they are. There are so many anufacturers because Arduino is an open platform (both hardware and software is freely available). Keep in mind that there are several models of Arduino boards, and often shields are not interchangeable.

    I would also consider seeeduino by seeedstudio
