Anyone out there actually looking to take your hobby to the next level? What kind of jobs are out there for one who has experience in Arduino and the like?

    Hi William,

An Arduino is a good step towards a career in electronics or software development.

Getting comfortable with technology is a start, but you need to move into an education path with a goal of what you want to do.

I started with a two year electronics degree to get my foot in the door.

I used that job to get access to company paid four year collage assistance.  Took me seven years to get my degree, but what I learned at work along the way was priceless.

With BS in Computer Engineering, yes it combines both hardware and software, I embarked on a very successful career developing various computer controlled systems in a lot of applications.

So if you found it fun working with the Arduino, think about what is next.

You can always pursue other careers and still find places where this type of knowledge would be useful.

You can always continue working with technology as a hobby.  I find a lot of retired engineers still playing around with SBC's, just for fun.

So take some time, discuss your ideas with others and think very carefully about what you want to do with your life.

Once you have a focus, you can begin to work towards your goal.  I wish there were short cuts in time and cost, but it really is better for you to take a longer road to get to your goal.

    Good luck,

    DAB
