What do you think is the sensor used in Automatic Flush?

Hi everyone,

I came across this blog which discusses the best submission of the second week of July to MATLAB Central. For those who do not know what MATLAB Central is - it is a repository for people to submit their projects and files that uses MathWorks' products. Techsource's Technical team had created an Arduino based system that controls an automatic flush and used Simulink to generate code for the Arduino.

In this they have used an Ultrasonic sensor and it got me thinking, "What is the sensor that is used in the actual flushes?"

My guess would have been Infrared sensors, what is yours?

I have enjoyed and appreciated your insights and answers on this forum since Element 14 first started their Design Center. As vital as sanitation is to modern life, I'm afraid I would have laughed this question off. Kudos to you for giving Madhu a serious answer. With a profound appreciation for good sarcasm, when given a straight line, I would likely have come up with some tongue-in-cheek (or "cheeks-in-bowl"?) response.
